A little bit of sugar, a little bit of spice…
Amaka’s music fuses contemporary styles of soul with blues and the more traditional vocal disciplines of jazz to create a unique blend of soulfulness. Add a bit of funk, some heavy percussion, a dash of reggae, and you will discover an atmospheric sound that simply lures you in…
Shirley H - Music Journalist
Born in the south of Germany, Amaka grew up in a Nigerian household in which “singing was a natural thing to do”.
Her musical influences range from artists such as Nina Simone, Erykah Badu and Sly & Family Stone to Portishead,
TV on The Radio, Sade, Fela Kuti and Cesaria Evora. Equally diverse, her music fuses contemporary styles of soul,
with blues and the more traditional vocal disciplines of jazz infused with afrolatin beats and heavy basslines to create
a unique blend of soulfulness. “Musically I practice polygamy”.
She moved to London and achieved degrees in Journalism and Law, however, she also spent her time there enveloping herself in its rich and varied music scene, making connections and performing not only in London, but in Lagos and across Europe including, Paris, Belgium, Luxembourg, Italy and Germany.
Amaka's intimate, laid back performances with her silky, atmospheric vocals and signature sultry rasp, have made her
an insider’s tip in the German music scene. Imagine every track as a partially completed canvas until she adds her own
colour, texture and feel, maximising every beat of every song....
Currently working on fresh material, her love for Soul, Blues, Afrobeat and heavy beats will feature in her debut album.
